In memory of Kayla Atkins and her heart for the South Hill Community,

Kayla’s Cupboard offers food assistance (by appointment only) to those in need. To schedule an appointment at the food pantry, please call 319-237-8400 or email

Kayla Atkins (1991-2012) was a loving and compassionate daughter, sister and friend; she loved art, sports, fishing, horseback riding and cooking. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Kayla’s passion for people was fueled by her love and devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ. It was her dream to open up a soup kitchen in the back of her Mom’s salon to serve those in need in Burlington. Following her freshman year of college, Kayla was diagnosed with leukemia; inspite of her illness, she lived to make a difference, constantly caring for others over herself.

Pursuing the same passions: loving God & serving others, Harmony Bible Church opened up Kayla’s Cupboard in 2014 as a place for those in need to receive food assistance in the name of Jesus Christ. The space Kayla once dreamed of serving the community through is doing just that: Kayla’s Cupboard now serves those in need in Burlington & the surrounding area.
